‘The secret ingredient to having good leaders around you.’

The law of the inner circle: A leaders potential is determined by those closest to him.

John C Maxwell

Every leader who has a vision larger than themselves knows how important it is to have good leaders around them. Any significant vision needs a team of powerful leaders and workers in order to bring it to fulfillment.

Every senior leader I know is constantly looking for ways to grow their leadership team. And I am yet to meet a leader who said they had enough workers and leaders on their team.

How then does one reach the place of having good leaders around them? I am glad you asked. Today I am going to give you the secret ingredient. However, before I do that let me give you two practical ways on how you can get good people around you.

Two ways to having good leaders around you.
  1. You have to attract them by being a good leader yourself. As a leader you will attract people that are most like you. If you are a person of excellence you will attract other people of excellence. If you are a laid back leader, you will attract others who are also laid back. So in order to attract strong leaders, you must become a strong leader yourself.
  2. You must develop the people around you. Everyone around you has some leadership potential. It is your job as a leader to develop the people around you so that they can reach their leadership potential.
Here’s the secret ingredient

In the book of 1 Samuel we find the secret. Let me quote chapter 10:26

And Saul went home to Gibeah; and valiant men went with him, men whose hearts God had touched.

Emphasis mine.

Dear leader, the secret ingredient to having good leaders around you is the touch of God on their hearts. We do all that we can in the natural but the secret is what God does in the spirit.
