“TWO KEYS TO THE GOOD LIFE”
What is the ‘good life’? – Is it being rich, powerful or influential? – Is it being popular, famous or celebrated? The answer will vary from person to person depending on what that individual values and desires. For most people, the ‘good life’ would simply be moving to the next level from where they are currently at. Whilst for others, ‘the good life’ would be getting whatever they want whenever they want.
As a natural person, its not difficult to see the appeal of having things our way all the time. That is because we naturally assume that we always know what is best for us; but the reality is that we don’t! Proverbs 14:12 says that “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.”. – Yes, it is possible believe that what we are doing is right only to find that it ends in death. The death may not be physical, but it could mean death in your business, your marriage or in some other important area of your life.
So what is the ‘good life’?
If God is good, and we know that He is; then naturally, the good life would have to be the life that He gives us! A life that is lived according to His will and desires and not our own. Thankfully the scripture makes is abundantly clear what that will and desire is: “beloved I wish above all things that you prosper and be in good health as your soul prospers’.(3 JOHN1:2). Proverbs 10:22 says that ‘The blessing of the Lord makes rich and He adds no sorrow to it’. Romans 14:17 teaches us that ‘The Kingdom of God is righteousness peace and joy in the Holy Ghost’, Jesus said that is was the Father’s good pleasure to give us the Kingdom. WOW! I don’t know about you, but that sounds like the good life to me 🙂
It’s God will for us to prosper in our souls, in our bodies and as well as in every other area of our lives. How then do we walk in this ‘good life’, the supernatural one that Jesus came to give us, the zoe, abundant life He promised in John10:10? The first and foremost way to enjoy the ‘good life’ would be to be born again, (See John 3) but the two keys that I would like to share with you today are found in Isiah 1:19:
‘If you are willing and obedient you will eat the good of the Land’
In this verse we receive two keys to the “good life”
- Be Willing! To be willing means to submit our will to God’s will, it means to consent to His ways, to yield and accept, as well as to desire what God desires. To be willing is to pliable in the hands of God, accepting that He is the Potter and we are the clay. (see Isiah 64:8). Submitting ourselves to the master potter will mean Him bringing out a masterpiece through our lives.
- Be obedient! The word obedient here comes from the Hebrew word shama which carries the literal meaning to hear, listen to and obey. In other words it means putting action into what we believe the Lord is saying. There are some folk who are willing, but they never act, thus they short-circuit the full experience of the Kingdom Life.
So dear friends, let us realize that the good life is not in getting our own way all the time and having every material object we desire. The good life is the life that God gives us in Jesus Christ, and that life brings with it both internal and external blessings. It comes fully loaded! And two keys to enjoying the full benefits of this life is being willing and obedient.
May you come to enjoy the inexhaustible benefits of the Kingdom Life.
Much love to all!
